Mesobank collects fresh mesothelioma surgical biopsy tumour samples, stored for 24 hours in RNALater™ and then frozen at -80°C. Quality control checks are performed on each sample for size, percentage tumour nuclei and percentage tumour necrosis.
It should be noted that because mesothelioma is a tumour with a highly variable and significant stroma to tumour ratio, the percentage tumour nuclei within samples varies considerably from 5-95%. For the most part, mesothelioma samples contain lower percentages of tumour nuclei and researchers are asked to bear this in mind when planning their work.
All samples are accompanied by a comprehensive data set.
