Mesobank is the UK’s largest collection of high-quality tissue, cells and blood samples from mesothelioma patients. It is dedicated to the study of mesothelioma by providing researchers with samples for a wide range of mesothelioma research.

Mesothelioma is a disease affecting both men and women and is most commonly caused by exposure to asbestos. Current treatments do not cure the disease and the aim of Mesobank is to make available samples and data which may be able to assist researchers find new and more effective treatments. As well as access to tissue, researchers can request anonymised data linked to the sample, and information about the treatments they have received.

Mesobank was established in 2012 and collaborates with hospitals around the UK to identify patients with mesothelioma and collect samples.

Objectives

Mesobank aims to provide high quality curated biospecimens linked to comprehensive longitudinal clinical data collected from patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma

Mesobank will act as a repository for well characterised early passage primary cell lines and will, in the near future, also produce mesothelioma organoid models for the research community

Mesobank is keen to collaborate with research groups who require longer term supply of materials for their research
